Calif. mom arrested for attacking daughter during exorcism
A northern California woman was arrested for stripping her young daughter naked and then repeatedly hitting her during what she said was an exorcism to rid the child of demons.
According to Ferndale police, several people witnessed 45-year-old Kimberly Felder viciously attacking her 11-year-old child Tuesday morning outside on Centerville Beach.
Authorities said the little girl was naked and Felder was shoving handfuls of sand in the child’s eyes and mouth, CBS SF reports.
Felder also bit her daughter, choked her and struck the child in the head with a piece of driftwood. The mother said she was trying to remove demons from the girl.
Kimberly Felder was accused of biting her daughter and shoving sand in her mouth during an exorcism.
About 10 to 12 people were on the beach at the time of the attempted exorcism. One local, named John Marciel, stepped in to help the girl before police could arrive. The Sheriff’s Office thanked Marciel for his efforts, writing in a news release that he most likely prevented Felder from killing the child.
The girl, whose identity has not been released, is being treated at a local hospital. Deputies said she suffered severe damage to her right ear.
Felder was taken to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on charges of attempted homicide, aggravated mayhem, felony child abuse and assault with a deadly weapon.
