Heavy rain, strong winds for Marathon Monday
Rain and freezing rain will transition to a period of heavy rain on Monday along with isolated thunderstorms as the frontal system moves through.
Warmer air will try to return, however, from the Boston area north and west, temperatures will stay in the 40s for most of the day.
A chilly rain will fall heavily at times and strong easterly winds will be an additional challenge for those running the 26.2 miles from Hopkinton to Boston.
Up to 2 inches of rain could fall from the system, which could also bring a few isolated thunderstorms.
The impending weather is impacting Patriots Day festivities. Concord officials said the town has canceled the parade after many groups elected not to march due to the inclement weather.
The Red Sox postponed Monday’s Patriots Day game due to the expected weather conditions.
Temperatures will remain cool through the week into next weekend.
