Nearly 200 million voters exposed by RNC server data breach
The personal data of nearly 200 million voters was exposed by an enormous security breach by a contractor running a large Republican National Committee server, The Hill reported Monday.
Personal details for 198 Republican voters, including names, addresses, home phone numbers and who the person was likely voter for, that had been stored on an unsecure Amazon server, existed on the internet in such a way that anyone could have downloaded the data without a password if they knew where to find it, The Hill reported.
In a statement the contractor that left the server and databases unprotected, Deep Root Analytics took “full responsibility” for the lapse.
According to the Hill, the data was exposed between June 1-14 but was sealed after the exposure was found.
