The viral footage was captured at Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport and then posted on YouTube before being viewed more than 150,000 times.

If the lightning bolt blasting the jet was not enough, more people have been left interested by the seconds beforehand.

At the beginning of the video, planes are seen arriving at the airport.

Then, suddenly, a small white object flies across the screen – above the aircraft.

The clip was re-posted onto conspiracy site Disclose.tv, with the caption: “Is it a bird, or a very fast drone or probe?

“Or is it something else?”

Viewers offered their own opinions, with, unfortunately for alien hunters, most deciding it was just a blurred seagull.

One posted: “If you slow it down it looks like a seagull.”

Another disagreed, writing: “I don’t think seagulls fly that fast and have lights.”

And a third added: “That has to be a UFO.”

Express.co.uk asked Scott Brando, who runs debunking website ufoofinterest.org to look at the footage and give his expert opinion.

He was left in no doubt that it was a seagull, with birds being responsible for a huge amount of sightings, according to him.

He said: “If you are watching this video about a lightning strike B777-300, at 48 seconds there is a ‘flying object’ which crosses the screen.

“It’s not a #UFO but just a bird, most likely a seagull.”

Incredibly, the aircraft that was hit mid-air by lightning managed to reach its destination at Lima airport on time – some 12 hours and 40 minutes later.
