Rebecca Hall donates wage from Woody Allen film to Time’s Up fund
“Vicky Cristina Barcelona” actress Rebecca Hall will donate her salary from an upcoming Woody Allen film to the new Time’s Up initiative, she announced Friday.
Hall, who apologized and said, “I regret this decision [to work with Allen] and wouldn’t make the same one today,” joins Greta Gerwig, Mira Sorvino, and Ellen Page in speaking out against the director.
Dylan Farrow, who has long accused her adoptive father of sexual abuse, has repeatedly called out the hypocrisy of those who support Allen and appear in his films while claiming to fight against sexual harassment and assault.
In a statement on Instagram, Hall said reflecting on Farrow’s statements made her realize that her actions “have made another woman feel silenced and dismissed.”
“That is not something that sits easily with me in the current or indeed any moment, and I am profoundly sorry. I regret this decision and wouldn’t make the same one today,” Hall wrote.
She also shared the accusations against Weinstein broke while she was working on a day’s shoot on Allen’s upcoming film, “A Rainy Day in New York,” according to Indiewire.
Hall has apologized for working with Allen and said, “I regret this decision and wouldn’t make the same one today.”
“I couldn’t have imagined somewhere stranger to be that day …. In the weeks following I have thought very deeply about this decision, and remain conflicted and saddened,” Hall said.
While the actress has credited Allen for one of her first major roles, she apologized for choosing to appear in the director’s latest film.
Instead, Hall said she would be donating her wages from the one day of work to Time’s Up, an initiative established by women in Hollywood to fight workplace harassment in other industries.
“I’ve also signed up, will continue to donate, and look forward to working with and being part of this positive movement towards change not just in Hollywood but hopefully everywhere,” Hall wrote.
