US snow storm MAP: Where is the snow storm in the USA now? Latest snow forecast for US
Freezing rain is turning into sleet and then snow as the cold front moves east across the USA through the Tennessee Valley, Ohio Valley and eastern Great Lakes.
It has already been snowing in Memphis, Tennessee, with reports of snow had coming in from as far south as Alexandria, Louisiana, earlier today.
Snow is hit set to central and upstate New York state and far northern New England as the storm continues towards the East Coast on Saturday.
Winter storm warnings all the way stretch from the Mississippi and Tennessee and Ohio Valleys to the eastern Great Lakes and New England.
Winter Storm Hunter comes after the last snow storm Winter Storm Grayson which battered the East Coast earlier this month.
Hunter is not expected to be as brutal as Grayson which was known as a bomb cyclone, unleashed blizzards and heavy snow along the coast.
The Weather Channel said: “In the East, the heaviest snowfall is expected from the eastern Great Lakes to far northern New England.
“However, accumulating snow will extend through much of the Ohio Valley and will extend as far south as parts of Tennessee, northern Mississippi, Arkansas, perhaps even far northern Louisiana.”
The National Weather Service (NWS) has forecast snow and freezing rain from the Tennessee and Ohio valleys into the Northeast today into Saturday.
The NWS said: “A strong cold front, located between the Mississippi River and the Appalachians this morning, will continue to sweep east today and eventually clear the entire East Coast by Saturday afternoon.”
The weather service added: “The transition to colder temperatures will be co-located with rain, changing to freezing rain, sleet and eventually snow for many from the Tennessee and Ohio valleys into interior sections of the Mid-Atlantic region and Northeast today and tonight.
“It appears locations along and west of I-95 will likely see some sort of frozen precipitation from this storm system between Wilmington, DE to Boston, MA.
“The heaviest snow is expected from northwestern Pennsylvania into far northern New York where upwards of a foot of new snow is expected by Saturday morning.”
WXCharts tweeted: “As the next cold outbreak develops across central and northeast parts of the USA, a mix of snow, sleet and ice is expected on the boundary between the warm and cold air.”
